The Shelby Series 1 is one of the sickest cars ever. I’m sure a few of you reading this have never seen or heard of this car. When you learn more about this smooth ride you will be a fan on some level. And yes this is a creation by the legendary Carroll Shelby. Fasten your seat belts while this amazing sports car blows your mind.
This car is the only Carroll Shelby creation from scratch. All other Shelby cars already existed while Mr. Shelby modified them into his models. The Series 1 was produced from 1998-2005. Not a whole lot of these cars were made. A company named Venture Corporation purchased Shelby America during production of this car. In 2004 Venture went bankrupted and Carroll Shelby’s new company “Shelby Automobiles Inc.” purchased the Series1 assets back. Due to complicated federal safety standards Carroll Shelby sold the rest of these cars with no engines or transmissions.
What is really interesting about these cars they are Oldsmobile powered. Yes I did say Oldsmobile powered. It is a 4.0L DOHC 32V V8 engine from the Aurora series. This car came in a natural aspirated model along with a supercharged model. The N/A model had 320hp@6500rpm with 290ft_lbs of torque at 5000rpm. The N/A car went 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds with a 12.8 second@112mph 1/4 mile. The supercharged model had super car performance with a power output around 600hp and 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds. I could not find any other credible information on the supercharged Series 1 performance stats. All these cars came with a six speed manual transmission. The average top speed for the Shelby Series 1 is around 170mph.
Even though this car is not known as well as the Viper or Corvette it is a great American creation. Not only does it look good and perform well but it also has many technological advances for it’s time.
