Aussie Speed

Darryl Marsh is the owner/driver of this wicked looking dragster. Darryl lives in the great city of Brisbane, Australia where racing and high performance is a way of life for many there. For many who don’t know Australia has one of the biggest car scenes in the entire world with major drag and road racing events. Darryl’s race car is the only Australian CC/MA turbocharged 4cyl modified altered.  Mr. Marsh is a die hard Toyota fan and only uses their engines for racing, even his tow truck for this little beast is a Land Cruiser.

Its time for us to take a look at what powers this racer. Whats most impressive a 2.0L Toyota 4 cylinder called a 18RG sits in front and has been stroked out.  A few stock engine componates such the head, pistons, and rods hold up to the abuse. Mechanical fuel injection is this system used with methanol. A monster T04 turbo intercooled feeds 35 pounds of boost at launch and up to 38 pounds at the finish line. The gearbox used is a type of powerglide with a 7200rpm stall convertor with trans brake. What gets all this power to the asphalt is a 9 inch large bearing Strange ultra case alloy differential with a 4.89.1 pro gear.

Lets wrap it up now with the performance numbers. The total dragster weight with Darryl in it is only 1608+/- pounds. Estimated horsepower at the crank is 505 and estimated wheel power is 455. The car ran in the 9 second range before this new set up. Now Darryl’s best quater mile time is a impressive 8.592 seconds@154mph. Stop by and check out Darryl Marsh’s website undapresharacing.com. The Ford SVT Supercharged 32v 4.6l

This engine was found in the 03-04 Mustang Cobra and was built for serious performance. A factory claimed out put of 385hp and 385ft_lbs of torque. Most the internals are made from forged material ready to hold up to heavy modifications. Changing the blower to a more heavy duty one and with a few other mods can easily put this 281ci engine in the 600hp range on pump gas.

car show 016

The C5 Corvette is a very important generation milestone for General Motors. It bridged the gap from the C4 Corvette a moderate sports car to the C6 a super car like monster. The C5 was introduced in1997 and produced to 2004. In 1997 the new ls1 was dropped into this new styled Corvette which raised standards of fans. Today the ls1 is still one of the hottest platforms around to modify for mega performance. General Motor’s aim was to keep it simple with less moving parts for dependability such as one cam shaft and two valves per cylinder. In my opinion the C5 had some of the best looking stock wheels that ever came on most Corvettes. In 2004 was the strongest and fastest production model the Z06 with its ls6 that made 405hp out of the box 0-60 mph around 3.9 seconds and  a stout 1/4 mile blast in the high 11 second range. The C5 can be seen going down the road any where but remember its one of the cars that raised American performance standards of today.  By Dave King
