The Ford C4 was made from 1964-1986. This tranny is still popular among Ford fans today. When built right a C4 is hard to beat on the race track. This transmission is a 3 speed automatic that is fairly geared low form the factory. It is pretty much set up for small block applications. The C4 has a reputation for being durable under regular high performance usage.

The GM Powerglide first debuted in 1950. This transmission is still very popular among drag racers and hot rodders today. This Powerglide is a 2 speed automatic. Just a low and high gear that’s all. The first versions of this transmission were made mostly of cast iron including the case. In 1963 the Powerglide was upgraded to an aluminum case with some aluminum internals. This transmission was replaced by the GM Turbo-Hydramatic series. Most Powerglides came in Chevrolet vehicles.
