A tachometer is a device used to measure engine speed. If your visiting this website and did not know that you have a long way to go before becoming a true gearhead. The tachometer has been around for nearly 200 years now. A German engineer by the name of Dietrich Uhlhorn is rumored to be the inventor. He used a tachometer that was driven by centrifugal force on machines around 1817. Since 1840 trains have used tachometers. I would also like to know when the first monster tach with giant shift light was first used.
